The story

Ferdinand Magellan

Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese navigator who, in the service of the King of Spain, commanded the maritime expedition that made the first sea voyage around the globe.

He was born in Sabrosa, in the Trás-os-Montes region, northern Portugal, on February 3, 1480. He belonged to the fourth order of the Portuguese nobility (coat-of-arms nobles) and was raised as a page of the court of Queen D. Leonor, wife of King John II the Perfect.

He was the first navigator to reach Tierra del Fuego in the far south of the American continent, crossed the Strait of Magellan and crossed the Pacific Ocean, which he named in its calm waters.
